Celebrate Learning Disabilities Awareness Month

Alhough most associate it with Halloween, cool weather, and pumpkin spice lattes, the month of October has also been designated as Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. Since 1985, the celebration has been used to spread knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities. Observe the occasion by learning more and sharing what you know!

  • The National Center for Learning Disabilities offers a variety of resources to promote LD awareness. You can learn everything from Basic Facts About LD to the six major issues in education most likely to impact children with LD. The Interactive LD Checklist and Resource Locator help parents recognize the signs of learning disabilities and find help.
  • Reading Rockets celebrates the month with inspirational stories and e-cards. And if you are a parent or teacher of a child with a learning disability, the site's recent blog entry, Digital Tools for Kids With Special Needs, shares links to a number of exciting resources.
  •  LD OnLine features a kids' art gallery to celebrate the artistic achievements of children with learning disabilities.
