The latest four installments of the Stuff Mom Never Told You podcast--just one in a line of podcasts from How Stuff Works--focus on women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields both in and outside academia.
The episodes give a brief history of prominent and pioneering women in each field before exploring the various obstacles and challenges women currently face in STEM careers. Some interesting trends are thoughtfully presented and discussed, from tech's dominant "brogrammer" culture to the possibility of an innate, altruistic motivation driving many female students toward engineering degrees. If you have a daughter or student interested in STEM--or not interested in STEM--these podcasts may help explain enormous opportunities and benefits in each field.
